For those who haven’t visited Fountains Abbey before, it is one of the largest and best preserved ruined Cistercian monasteries in England. Located in North Yorkshire, the abbey operated for 407 years and became one of the richest monasteries in England before being abolished by Henry VIII in 1539. Fountains Abbey needs to be seen to be fully appreciated with the magnificent architecture telling the story of a past time and how the monks of England used to live.

Fountains by Floodlight offers a unique opportunity for the family to see the abbey in a whole new light. The structure looks all the more dramatic lit up at night, with shining arches and cascading shadows creating a spooky yet spectacular vibe. As you wander through the ruins be sure to listen out for the sounds of the choir echoing throughout the Abbey, creating a magical atmosphere for you and the family to enjoy.

Once you have finished taking in the views why not head to Mill Yard where you can enjoy a sourdough toasty from Toast of Harrogate or perhaps a luxurious hot dog from Posh Dogs. Wash all the tasty local produce down with a refreshing pint of local real ale or a gin from the Pie and Tap stall. Lastly, head to the visitor centre shop to have a browse or even pick up a souvenir or two.

For this event be sure to wrap up warm, bring a torch and sensible footwear and prebook online! Prices are £10 for adults, £5 for 5-17 year old’s and free for under 5’s so get your tickets booked, your cameras ready at the ready and witness this stunning spectacle this half-term.
