Best Staycation Destinations in Yorkshire

It’s safe to say 2020 hasn’t quite turned out as we all envisioned, although some flights are starting to take place very few of us are venturing far and wide to our usual holiday destinations this year, but fear not this doesn’t mean vacations are off the cards completely!

Right here in Yorkshire we have some if the most scenic locations to enjoy a holiday with the family, partner or friends. From beaches holidays to walking adventures, there’s plenty do right on our doorstep and the best part is you don’t even need your passport!

As true advocates of Yorkshire we’ve put together a list of just a few of our favourite Yorkshire spots that will make the perfect staycation destinations!

Whitby

Whitby Seaside

When you think of Whitby do you think Whale Bones, Dracula and colourful beach huts? Us too!Whitby isn’t your traditional coastal town, the cobbled streets are filled with quirky independent businesses, whilst the sands stretch as far as the eye can see. With plenty of campsites, hotels and Air Bnbs in the area, you won’t be short of places to stay.

One last tip: It’s impossible to go to the Whitby and not go to the famous Magpie fish and chip restaurant.

Flamborough

Flamborough Cliffs

For unforgettable views head to Flamborough Head, the white cliffs surrounding the small village are beyond breath taking. Flamborough is a walkers paradise, hike from Bemptom Cliffs to Flamborough Head for panoramic coastline views or if you’re looking for a more relaxing holiday, spend your days on the sands with a bucket and spade and see what you can find in the rock pools!

Staithes

Staithes

Staithes is the ultimate quintessential English coastal village, with cobbled streets lined with dainty cottages, Staithes is the perfect backdrop for a staycation. Wander along the cliff top paths or hunt for fossils down at the beach. For the artist amongst us, Staithes is a must visit, follow the Painted Illusion Trail or visit The Staithes Gallery. Finally, for any big kids that were a fan of CBeebies' Old Jacks Boat, take a trip to some of Old Jacks favourite Staithes hangouts captured in the programme. Richmond

Richmond Centre

If you’re looking for a mix or the great outdoors with a vibrant town with plenty to do, Richmond is your next holiday destination! Whether you choose to explore Richmond on foot, by bike or by train, make sure you don’t miss Richmond Castle or Kiplin Hall & Gardens. Riverside Walks in Richmond will be a hit with the whole family & why not finish off the day with a trip to The Station Cinema followed by Fish and Chips in the Town Centre. Ofcourse a town as vibrant as Richmond has plenty of options for accommodation from luxury hotels to cute cottages.

Grassington

The village of Grassington offers the perfect backdrop for your next holiday. The cobbled market square is accompanied by a range of local shops offering everything from food, art and specialty gifts. Grassington is a hugely popular spot for walkers with a magnitude of routes to explore around the Yorkshire Dales. Ofcourse all tired walkers need somewhere to replenish their energy levels often in the form of a local pub and Grassington has just that - take your pick from your choice of traditional pubs and restaurants. During the day, visit the likes of Coldstone Cuts, Brimhams Rocks and Stump Cross Caverns to keep the whole family occupied. Of an evening head to the quirky streets of Pateley Bridge and choose from a selection of restaurants to suit all taste buds. Before you leave make a stop at the Oldest Sweet Shop in England for all your sugary treats. The Peak District

Harrogate District

Head a few miles down the road and you’ll reach the Knaresborough where you can hop in a boat and row down the river as you take in the views of the viaduct. A short drive from Harrogate and you’ll be met by acres of Greenland ready for you to explore on foot or by bike, just another reason why Harrogate should be your next staycation spot.
