Christmas Day Walks In Leeds

Otley Chevin

Situated a mere ten miles to the north-west of Leeds city centre, this well-loved walking trail provides picturesque views of Otley town. Offering a variety of woodland paths, curvy routes, and themed trails, it is a favoured destination for outdoor enthusiasts. Choose from a variety of self-guided walks such as: Geology Trail, Heritage Time Trail, Otley Woodcock Walk and many more.

There are a few car parks available around the chevin, depending on where you would like to begin your walk.

Meanwood Valley Trail

If you’re wanting to stray a bit further than usual, opt for this seven-mile trail that guides you from Woodhouse Moor to Golden Acre Park. The Meanwood Valley is the ‘green artery’ of Leeds, as it brings a little bit of the countryside into the city. This trail is a fantastic way to explore the nature reserve and discover the highlights of the natural and cultural history of the area.

Roundhay Park

Spreading across 5.1km, this circular trail is a delightful walk to enjoy on Christmas day! Experience the beauty of this local Leeds hotspot, with streams, wooded areas, mini castles, kids playground and of course the serene lakes within the park. Car parking is available there but tends to fill up quickly on a sunny day.

The Lines Way

The Lines Way is a former railway line, now disused is more commonly used for cyclists and walkers. Beginning in Garforth, this trail heads through town and joins the Lines Way through farmland, keep following the track throughout Kippax Beck, Great Preston, Allerton Bywater which eventually arrives into Castleford. There are plenty of watering holes to grab a Christmas day refreshment. Parking is available in Station Road car park.

The Garforth end starts at Ninelands Lane, LS25 2AN and Allerton Bywater end starts from Park Ln, WF10 2AT.

Farnley Hall Park

This park is a great place to take the family and dogs for a Christmas day walk. It is a pleasant walk with a bridlepath, leading towards the far side of the park. There’s also a stately home in the centre of the park, another enjoyable stroll on a Christmas day morning. Limited parking is available, however more spaces are available along the park’s boundary.
