Adel is known for its countryside feel yet its efficient links to the busy city of Leeds make it one of the most sought after locations in Leeds. Adel Dam Nature Reserve
Adel Dam Nature Reserve is a hidden gem just next to the famous Golden Acre Park. The woodland and wetland nature reserve is the perfect venue for a stroll. Under the high canopy trees, take a walk around the dam, with plenty wildlife to spot the dam is the perfect place for the kids to get involved in nature or for you to enjoy the peaceful oasis away from busy modern life. With 8 hectares to explore you won’t be short of space, park up in the car park of Golden Acre and embark on the circular stroll.
Adel Woods
Head into Adel woods to be amongst the forest woodland. Between Adel and Alwoodley, Adel woods has picturesque mix of open meadows, heathland, woodland with the odd steam and pond to splash through. As you wander through the woods you’ll be met by the impressive Seven Arches Aqueduct, originally built to ferry water from Eccup Reservoir. As you continue you’re woodland adventure there is plenty of other features to spot on your way, including the ‘Slabbering Baby’ you’ll have to find it to know what it is…
Otley Chevin Forest Park
Not too far from Adel is the popular Otley Chevin Forest Park. Overlooking the market town of Otley, the Chevin Forest Park is a designated nature reserve offering spectacular views from the parks north facing cliff. There is plenty of wildfire around the Chevin to be explored, dogs are welcome but must be kept under control for safety reasons. With plenty of parking available why not take a picnic and make a day of it at the Chevin.
Golden Acre Park
It would be impossible to write about walks in Adel and not mention the famous Golden Acre Park. Golden Acre Park is recognised for its picturesque circular stroll, perfect for all ages and abilities. Take the dog for a walk, spot the wide variety of wildlife and finish up with a coffee and a cake in the onsite café.
