Things you didn't know about Crossgates
In 2009 the Welcome to Crossgates 3 stone sign was build and painted black red and white. However the colours were later changed to red, blue and silver as the original colours are those of Manchester United.

Only 4.5 miles outside of the Leeds City Centre, transports links are as you would expect, both efficient and regular. Crossgates Train Station sits just off the ring road and runs from York to Leeds City Centre every 30 minutes, taking approximately 10 minutes. Crossgates also has regular bus services running via Selby, Crossgates and Leeds. If you’re traveling a little further afield, Leeds Bradford International Airport is a short 12 miles away from Crossgates.
Before the 1880’s Crossgates was a relatively rural village divided between the parishes of Whitkirk and Barwick, hence the term gate which is thought to describe the boundaries. During the 1880’s Crossgates gained a railway along with mines, bringing people to the area. When the local coal pits closed in 1882, Crossgates became a commuter village and began to attract Leeds more affluent residents who used the railways for quick access to the city.

Further along the road delve into the delights of Turkey at The Black Olive, or try a little Indian spice at the popular Nawaz. For your weekend drinks, the vibe at The Assembly is something to experience. With a range of local beers, gins and spirits to try, it’s hard to not become a regular.
In the centre of Crossgates is the convenient Crossgates Shopping Centre. The centre first opened its doors in 1967 as the first American style shopping mall in England. Nowadays, the retail outlet is home to many high street brands including Newlook, Shoe Zone and Gregs. For all your grocery needs, there are a number of supermarkets within the Crossgates area including Iceland to Marks & Spencer. Furthermore, there are range of independent businesses alongside banks, estate agents and hairdressers on Austhorpe Road to satisfy all your retail needs.
