Gildersome is a small village 5 miles South-West of Leeds City Centre with a big community feel. Gildersome sports club highlights the community spirit of the village, acting as a social hub for everything from the local football and cricket teams to regular events in their bar and function room as well as being host to all the action from the premier league and super league! The community feel carries on throughout the village with several busy pubs creating a sociable environment to enjoy a drink and catch up with others in the community. Just outside of Gildersome is the popular Junction 27 Retail Park. Junction 27 offers visitors plenty to do with all sorts on offer with a number of high street shops, a gym, a top of the range Showcase de Luxe cinema and a selection of popular restaurant chains.

From Gildersome you are in easy reach of the rest of the North of England with Morley train station on your doorstep. From Morley there are regular routes to Leeds, Huddersfield and Wigan providing options for days out and opportunities for commuters. As well as this, there are a number of popular bus routes passing through Gildersome itself with busses travelling to Leeds, Huddersfield, Wakefield and Bradford. Also, Gildersome is just a stones throw from the M62 which makes the breadth of the country easily accessible by car.


    The village began as a thriving mining community with many local pits. You can still see evidence of Gildersome’s mining past within the village today with the town houses and terraces built on Street Lane originally used as miners’ accommodation. Also, some of the original mining locations still remain today, for example the brownhills which is the land separating Gildersome from the neighbouring Drighlington was originally used for mining. 


    Eating & Drinking

    For a small village, you are spoiled for choice when it comes to places to go for a drink or a bite to eat in Gildersome. A good range of pubs are bound to keep you entertained with The Tipsy Calf, The Gildersome Arms, The Old Griffin Head, The Conservative Club, The New Inn, and The Sports Club giving you plenty of choice as to where to go for a drink. There’s plenty going on as well with regular bingo and karaoke nights as well as lots of other entertainment to keep you busy at the pub. 

    For a bite to eat, Sorella is a must try with a great selection of breakfast bites, sandwiches, salads, and tasty treats as well as a range of hot drinks. For something more substantial, be sure to try the Gildersome Arms which serves up a range of pub classics and even a carvery on Sundays! If you’re a fan of a curry, you’re in for a treat with Alishaan’s Indian Bistro earning their reputation as a local favourite by serving up some of the best Indian cuisine in the area. 


    Within Gildersome there is the convenient local co-op where you can easily grab all the essentials. For your bigger shops a short drive to Morley will bring you to everything you’ll need with a large Aldi, Asda and Morrison’s giving you plenty of choice for the weekly shop. For a shopping trip, you can make the most of the large Junction 27 Retail Park on your doorstep where you will be spoilt for choice with all your favourite large high street retailers on offer and even an IKEA, making this retail park a one stop shopping experience with something for everyone.
