Family Days Out in Leeds - 10 Thing To Do This Summer Holiday

So you’ve got 6 weeks of entertaining ahead of you, this can feel like a challenge in itself! To try to make your life a little easier these summer holidays we’ve put together a list of things to do around Leeds, to keep the little ones entertained and burn off some of that summer holiday energy!

1. Roundhay Park and Tropical World

Horsforth

What better place to get into the outdoors than in one of Europe’s biggest parks, Roundhay Park. With acres to run free, why not take along a picnic and make the most of the facilities, including the ever-popular play park. Roundhay Park isn’t shy of hosting an event or two, this summer why not get tickets to the outdoor performance of ‘Gangsta Granny’ written by David Walliams, sure to give the whole family a laugh! If the unpredictable British weather takes a turn for the worst, hop over the road to Tropical world, explore the multiple rooms to see everything from Bats to butterflies!

2. Jump Arena

We know the energy levels in the summer holidays are at an all-time high so what better activity than trampolining. Head to Jump Arena and take your pick from dodge ball, basketball, the foam pit or some freestyle jumping. Keep an eye out for any summer holiday deals to get you through the 6 weeks!

3. Yorkshire Sculpture Park

Horsforth

The Yorkshire sculpture park is a great way to head outdoors whilst appreciating some of the best art in the business. Forget indoor silent art galleries, the open-air exhibitions of The Sculpture Park give children the opportunity to appreciate art with no walls. Why not take along a pencil and paper and challenge the kids to draw their favourites.  If your little ones are under 5 try ‘Little Explorers’ whereby the artists take you and your little one on an imaginative adventure around the park. If your kids want to get a little more hands-on the make yourself at home family studio space is a great place to draw, construct and play!

4. Leeds Sailing and Activity Centre

We might be a while away from the seaside here in Leeds, but we do have a great water sports facility on our doorstep! Leeds Sailing and Activity Centre situated at Yeadon Tarn is a great place to try to find your water sports talent. With everything from canoeing to stand up paddleboarding, the Leeds Sailing and Activity Centre is a fun-filled day out for everyone. Whilst the kids are out on the water, why not give yourself some much-needed respite!

5. Middleton Railway

If you’ve got some transport fanatics in the family, Middleton Railway is a great place to explore. Take a look round the museum and take a ride on one of their steam trains! Founded in 1758 the railway in steeped in history and is a great way for kids to take a trip down memory lane and see life before the sat nav!  

6. Meanwood Valley Urban Farm

Horsforth

Are your children constantly asking for a pet? Don’t give in just yet, take them down to Meanwood Valley Urban Farm to interact with a whole range of animals, everything from guinea pigs to goats. This will be sure to satisfy their desire to be a pet owner for at least another month or two. Meanwood Valley Urban Farm is the perfect place for the children to get that hands-on contact with the animals without them coming anywhere near your home; a win-win situation!

7. Harewood House

Horsforth

For a guaranteed great day out head to Harewood House, the well-known house and grounds are a hit with any children. Whether you get a group of you together to explore the playground and farm or take a family picnic before adventuring into the bird garden, there is something for everyone to enjoy.  Whatever you decide, be sure to book your tickets online to save 10%!

8. Royal Armouries

Go back in time and venture into the history of arms and armour from across the world at the Royal Armouries Museum.  The 5 floors of displays will keep you and your little ones busy for hours. Look out for the ‘Royals Family Days Out’ activities throughout the school holidays, the action-packed days of live combat demonstration, dramatics performance and getting hands-on with history will be a hit with the whole family!

9. Go Ape

Horsforth

We can almost guarantee no child will pass on the chance to climb through the trees.  Go ape at Temple Newsam is a go-to summer holiday activity; there are 3 different levels to choose from to suit each child. The obstacle course is set on 1500 acres of parkland, giving the kids a chance to challenge themselves and swing through the trees getting up close with nature and get their adrenaline pumping!

10. Lotherton Hall

Horsforth

Do you have children that love to run around woodland play areas, enjoy giant lawn games, visit animals in the wildlife park and burn some energy in acres of land and gardens? If so, Lotherton Hall is a must-visit this summer! With enough activities to last a week never mind a day you won’t be short of things to do, but be prepared, getting them to leave could be a challenge!
