Leeds at Christmas - 2019's Best Christmas Events

We’ve looked at some of the less festive events happening this month in Leeds, but now we’re going full Christmas mode! It only happens once a year so why not celebrate it? There is so much festive fun for all the family happening across Leeds. From markets to pantomimes here are our Christmas 2019 suggestions…

Leeds Christkindelmarkt

Until December 21st 
Millennium Square

It’s a firm favourite for any Leeds local, back for its 18th year the Leeds Christkindelmarkt in Millennium Square is jam packed with food stalls, beer halls, live music and unique gifts; perfect for Christmas. Lit up with thousands of fairy lights it’s hard not to get into the festive spirit. With a fairground and plenty to do and see, Christkindelmarkt makes for a great family day or evening out. 

Vegan Christmas Market

Saturday 8th December 
Leeds Town Hall

Something a little different; The Winterfest Vegan Christmas Market is the place to be this Christmas for all your plant based goods. The one day market will take place on December 8th at Leeds Town Hall. With Over 100 fantastic stalls jam packed with food, drink, beauty products and much more, be sure to give yourself enough time to enjoy it all!

The Christmas Adventure @ Stockeld Park 
16th Nov - 6th Jan (Events Vary) 


Stockeld Park is renowned for getting into the spirit of things no matter what time of year - and Christmas is no exception. The Christmas Adventure makes for the perfect family day out. Wander through the award winning ‘Enchanted Forest,’ when the sun goes down the illuminations come to life, making for a magical evening. Even Santa is making a stop at Stockeld this year, drop by and bring your Christmas list to his grotto until the 24th December! With much more going on across the park you won’t know where to start! 

Wheel of Light 
16th Nov - 1st Jan


Take in the sights of Leeds over 110ft in the air on Leeds’ Wheel of Light. Illuminated by over 25,000 LED lights, whether you choose to ride it or not, The Wheel of Light makes for an impressive viewing. It’s hard to miss but you can find it in Victoria Gardens up until 1st January 2020. 

Mustard Pot Christmas Teepee's
21st Nov - Jan


The Tepees are back at the Mustard Pot in Chapel Allerton this year.  Get cosy around the fire and enjoy a beer with friends with a real festive feel.  The mulled wine is warming awaiting your arrival, or if beer is your thing there are plenty of options at the Mustard Pot. So why not mix up your average night at the pub this Christmas and head to the Mustard Pot Teepees. 

The Christmas Experience @ Lotheron Hall
22nd Nov - 5th Jan


Experience the 12 days of Christmas at Lotherton Hall this year, as you make your way through the Christmas Walk in the Captain’s Wood. Watch the turtle doves fly, walk through the five gold rings and be one of the drummers drumming! What Christmas day out would be complete without a visit to Santas Grotto and you might even meet a few elves on your way.

The Wizard of OZ

10th Dec - 25th Jan

We’re off to see the wizard… Make your way down the yellow brick road at The Playhouse this Christmas and skip into the Emerald City with a spectacular performance of the all-time favourite The Wizard of Oz.  

Sleeping Beauty @ The Carriageworks 

22nd Nov - 4th Jan

The Carriage works are showing a spectacular pantomime production of Sleeping Beauty this Christmas. Join the cast as they break the curse that forced the princess to sleep for 100 years in the hilarious, feel good performance. 

Cinderella @ Leeds Grand Theatre

17th Dec - 2nd Jan

If you’d rather a little more plié than panto, Northern Ballets performance of Cinderella is not to be missed. Follow the enchanting journey from rags to riches and watch how the dancers bring the story to life. 

5th December - 13th Dec @ Clarence Road


Leeds’ answer to winter wonderland; Hinterland is a village of alpine inspired tepee’s.  Enjoy a beverage round the open log fire or alternatively wrap up warm in the fully sculpted ice bar. With drag queen MCs, late night DJ’s and the obligatory confetti cannon, you are guaranteed a great night at Hinterland. 

Christmas at Temple Newsam 
7th Dec - 22nd Dec (Weekends Only)


There is plenty going on every weekend in December at Temple Newsam. Experience how the Tudors, Georgiana and Victorians celebrated Christmas before getting a little creative in wreath making and pine cone crafting. Santa is a busy guy this time of year and is managing to make a stop at Temple Newsam welcoming visitors to his workshop.

Christmas Cinema @ Left Bank
22nd Dec


The only thing better than A Muppets Christmas Carol is watching it in the impressive surroundings of Left Bank Leeds. Watch the classic tale on the big screen whilst enjoying a mulled wine, hot chocolate and obviously some popcorn. Head down the Leftbank of December 22nd for an afternoon of sing-a-longs.   

Magical Maze @ The Light

The Magical Maze returns to The Light this year. In the heart of Leeds City Centre, the maze gets underway in St.Annes Gardens. Work your way through the twists and turns before getting stuck into some arts and crafts with Santas Elves and where there is elves Santa is never too far away… 

However you choose to spend the run up to Christmas we’re sure you’ll find something festive to get stuck into in Leeds this year with so much going on we’re sure even the biggest scrooges won’t be able to resist.
