Half term is almost here, with the Autumn weather in full swing, many of our go-to outdoor activities might be off the cards this half term, but don’t fear there is still plenty going on in and around Leeds for the whole family to enjoy. So take a look at some of our top picks for this half term

Beastly Creepy Crawlies and Halloween Half term at Temple Newsam

Horsforth

If your kids are into creepy crawlies they’ll be in their element at Temple Newsam this half term. The Beastly Creepy Crawlies event will show them just how to spot creepy critters and gives the kids the chance to create their own crafty spooky spider or crawling creature. If you prefer larger animals, head to the House Farm to see it dressed in all its spooky Halloween glory. What’s more, the joiners shop is the place to go for daily crafts for all to enjoy.

Half term at Abbey House Museum

Abbey House Museum is the place to be this half term! Not only does the museum explore life in Victorian Leeds, this half term they have a range of crafty events to get stuck into. Start the week off with Haunted Halloweens Crafts; see the Victorian streets decorated head to toe in a spooky style and get stuck into some serious Halloween crafting! If you have a budding scientist in your bunch, Spooky Silly Science is another fantastic event taking place at Abbey House; think potions, goo and bubble snakes!   When the 31st arrives, the Happy Halloween event will be sure to keep the kids entertained and there will be plenty of coffee and cake to keep you busy too! As the week draws to a close, end on a high at the Monster Mash-Up; a chance for the little ones to create their own monsters!

Where’s Wally? The Big Museum Hunt

Leeds City Museum has teamed up with famous Walker Books on the quest to find the forever hiding Wally! Head to the Leeds City Museum and help in the hunt to find the mischievous character. There are 10 mini Wally’s that need to be found and you’ve got 4 floors and 6 galleries in which to do so. Grab your activity pack at the entrance and let the Wally hunt begin! Suitable for all ages this is a fantastic way to explore the museum whilst keeping the kids engaged! Don’t forget to enter the Where’s Wally and Kids in Museum competition for your chance to win some great goodies.

Fright Water Valley

Although a little outside of Leeds, Fright Water Valley is definitely worth the journey. The popular theme park Light Water Valley has had a spooky makeover this half term. Don’t panic there is something for the whole family, get into the spirit of the season and dress to impress for the fancy dress competition or get truly spooked in the live scare maze; but be warned it’s not for the faint-hearted!  Finish the day off right with their spectacular firework finale as well as riding their usual hair raising rides!

Pick Your Own Pumpkin

Why not start a little healthy competition between the family, head to the Horsforth pumpkin patch to pick your own pumpkin before calving away your creations! The pumpkin patch at Kemps Farm on West End Lane is a fantastic day out for the whole family. Open from Friday 18th to the 31st October there are plenty of opportunities to visit the patch. Even better, Kemps Farm lets you carve your pumpkins on-site, meaning no mess in your own home! If that wasn’t already enough, there’s also spooky face painting and tractor rides daily, so grab your wellies and head to Kemps Farm for a day that will be a hit with the whole family!

Catalan Soccer Holiday Camps at Goals

If you have a sporting superstar in the family or a child with a lot of energy to burn, the Catalan Soccer Holiday Camp at Goals is the perfect place for them! The social camp gives kids the opportunity to learn to basic skills in tactics, fitness and healthy eating all from qualified coaches.  The camps run Monday to Thursday with professional equipment, huge giveaways and medals to be won, it’s a great way for children to learn new skills, make new friends and burn some energy!

Lotherton Spooky Scarecrow Trail

 Lothertons Spooky Scarecrow Trail is back, venture around the house and grounds, keeping a lookout for a range of scarecrows. The Keepers Lair is only for the brave, get to know the animals with those who know them best in Tropical Worlds special Halloween workshop.

The Witch Tales at North Leeds Libraries

Immerse yourself and the family in a witches tale across Leeds at a range of local libraries. Wrongsemble have teamed up with North Leeds libraries to take you through a Witches Tale; a magical musical adventure perfect for the whole family. The performances make storytelling an interactive experience whereby you even get to create your own theatrical props inspired by the show. So head to your local library for this fantastic free event!

Halloween Adventure at Stockeld Park

There are countless events going on this half term at Stockeld Park to keep everyone entertained! There is a running Halloween theme throughout, from searching for witches in the forest to showing off your spooky style in the Halloween Catwalk, there will be something to satisfy all customers big or small! If you’ve got some teens that fancy something terrifying, the Stockeld Dark event is a spooky way to spend your evening; venture in the farmhouse for the spookiest haunted house around. Later grab your fancy dress and skate the night away at the ice freight disco ice rink with DJ Bloodbath on the decks.
