Christmas Lights in Leeds - Your Local Switch On
It’s hard to believe but it’s that time of year again, the city will be lit with Christmas lights and Mariah Carey will be playing on repeat in every store before we know it. Whether you’re a Christmas fanatic or a seasonal scrounge you can’t deny the Christmas light switch on is a great night for all the family. With plenty of festive lights to be switched on across the city, we’ve taken a look at some of the dates to remember for your local lights.
Leeds City Centre
Thursday 7th November
The Headrow, Leeds
Starting with the main event, Leeds City Centre light switch on kicks of the Christmas proceeding this year on Thursday 7th November, from 6:45 pm and there will be plenty going on. As heroes to many, it seems only right that Leeds United Stars are taking a break from training to be responsible for the big switch on. However, warming up the stage will be 2004 X Factor opera sensations G4; you can expect some classic from the foursome. In keeping with the X-Factor theme, more recent winners Rak Su will be joining the festive line up to perform in front of the 20,000 Leeds locals. They’ll also be appearance form Cebeebies stars and West End performer Katherine Picar, alongside a huge firework display making for a magical evening for all the family. So make sure you head to Leeds Art Gallery at The Headrow this Thursday.

Oakwood Christmas Light Switch on

Closely following Crossgates, the community of Oakwood are switching their lights on on Saturday 9th November, gathered round the famous Oakwood clock. In celebration of the festivities, Oakwood Christmas Light switch on gets underway from 12 pm with a range of artisan craft and street food stalls selling some great Christmas gifts. There will be local musicians and musical talent from schools including Roundhay Primary, Roundhay St.Johns, Ker Mackie and Footloose Dance! With children’s activities such as Punch and Judy running all day, why not make a day of it before the lights get switched on in the evening!
Moortown Festive Switch
Moortown Community Gardens
Tuesday 12th November
Moortown Festive Switch On will take place on Tuesday 12th of November outside Moortown Community Gardens. Brighten up a Tuesday evening with festive cheer, live music and refreshments, before watching the streets of Moortown get lit up at 7 pm.
Willow Tree Roundabout
Thursday 14th November
6pm - 7pm
Local triathlon star Jonathon Brownlee with have the responsibility of the big switch-on in Chapel Allerton this year, with the help of the Lord Mayor of Leeds. Gather at the Willow Tree Roundabout for a range of activities and performances from Radio Aire, local schools, Breeze acts and much more. In true Chapel Allerton style there will be a range of food and drinks stalls run by local residents and businesses, supporting the local community! Festivities begin at 6 pm.
Farsley Christmas Light Switch On
Andrew Square, Farsley
Wednesday 27th November
6:30pm - 7:30pm
Watch as the Pipe Band parade brings in Christmas from the library in Farsley with a little help from Santas sleigh. There is plenty going on to bring the festivities to Farsley including ‘twelve seasonal stalls’ outside Sunnybank Mills offering everything from face painting to a visit to Santas Grotto. Catch entertainment from Farsley Village Singers in Andrew square before the light switch on at around 7pm.
Garforth Christmas Light Switch On & Market
Main Street, Garforth
Friday 29th November
5pm - 8:30pm
Garforth's Light Night takes place on Friday 29th November this year. With over 30 stalls with local produce, gifts and more there is plenty for you to take a look at. The entertainment and stalls will stretch across the 2 days with the big light switch on taking place on the Friday evening. It’s set to be a great festive weekend in Garforth.
Guiseley Christmas Market & Light Switch On 2019
Town Gate, Guiseley

Guiseley Christmas Markets and Light Switch on is back for the 4th year running! Town Gate Guiseley will be jam-packed with festive stalls from local businesses. As always the evening will consist of a great line up of acts, hot food, mulled wine, a funfair and much more; the perfect way to spend a Sunday evening.
Morley Christmas Festival & Light Switch On

Morley Christmas Festival brings the festivities to Morley on Saturday 30th of November. Things get underway with the outdoor Christmas markets from 10 am. You can grab some great gifts or just some tasty food and drink. There will be a stage show leading up to the light switch on that is not be missed from 5:30 pm. After the light switch at 7pm, Christmas will be truly welcomed in with a fantastic firework display.
Yeadon Christmas Light Switch On 2019

Yeadon Christmas Light Switch On has a new committee for 2019 and promises to be better than ever. The Christmas celebrations will be filled with local performers including the Futurist Theatre Productions. Throughout the day, Yeadon Charities Christmas Fayre will be taking place making sure Yeadon is truly in the spirit of things!
Pudsey Christmas Light Switch On 2019
Market Place, Pudsey
Sunday 1st December
Market place in Pudsey is the place to be for all things festive in Pudsey on Sunday the 1st of December. Christmas markets will open at 3 pm, stocked with all thing festive, including gifts and locally sourced treats. The main event of the light switch on will take place at 6 pm and there will be fairground rides, live entertainment and of course an impressive firework display, making it a fantastic event for the whole family.
