Known for its bustling crowds, festive food and carnival atmosphere, the light switch-on attracts visitors from across Leeds. This year's switch-on will take place on Sunday December 1st, and if last year's event is anything to go by, will feature a handful of live performances, street stalls selling unique and handmade Christmas gifts, and even a Santa's Grotto experience.

Queen Street in Morley will light-up on Saturday 30th November in what promises to be a memorable all-day event for locals and visitors alike. Kicking things off from 11am, Morley will host people from across Leeds as part of their Christmas Light Switch On, providing entertainment for all ages with funfair rides, festive refreshments and market stalls. As ever, it'll make for a fantastic day out for the family. The Christmas light switch on gets underway, courtesy of Morley Town Mayor Simon Brown, from 7pm. If the festivities didn't already sound entertaining enough, the event will feature a fantastic firework finale, ensuring you'll be heading into December with a bang!

Wetherby - December 1st

From 11am on Sunday 1st December, Wetherby will be getting underway with it’s Christmas light switch on event. For 2024, the town is shaking things up a little, with the Wetherby market square being used solely for fun fair rides, with local shops opening their doors instead of the usual market stalls. The idea is to showcase more of the town, so Santa will be moving to The Old Men’s Parliament this year, and other open spaces around the town are set to feature. As ever, entertainment will be put on to wow the crowds and ramp up the atmosphere, and several bands and other performers are already lined-up to play on the day. The event will run from 11am to sometime after 6pm.

Leeds City Centre

If you can’t make one of the local Christmas Light Switch On events, but you’re looking for other festive fun, the Leeds Christmas Market is returning and is set to be bigger and better. The majority of this year's Christmas market, will be running from 22nd of November until 22nd December, and will be split between City Square and Millennium Square. This new improved market will bring around 70 traditional stalls to Leeds' City Centre, and the much-loved ice rink is back. It’s a fantastic hub for festive feel-good and a great opportunity to get into the holiday spirit!

Leeds has some incredible Christmas Lights events planned this festive season, whether in a market town or right in the heart of the city. Mulled wine, Christmas crackers and festive delights will be found throughout, so get wrapped up warm and embrace the selection of seasonal events on offer across Leeds and the surrounding areas.
