It's a true gem in the heart of Leeds and the perfect place to explore when the sun is shining. Whether you're keen on a leisurely stroll or looking to tire out the kids, Roundhay has something for everyone.
Popular all year round, the park hosts fantastic events such as food and drink festivals, fun fairs, and circuses. Facilities include tennis courts, two children’s play areas, two lakes, two golf courses, a cricket pitch, and a skate park. There are also two cafés and a takeaway coffee shop to keep you fuelled up.
If the weather isn’t playing ball, Tropical World—located within the park—is a must-see. Here, you'll discover exotic animals like meerkats, monkeys, crocodiles, and butterflies, making it an exciting day out no matter the forecast.
2. Kirkstall Abbey

Surrounded by lush parkland, it’s a great spot for a peaceful summer afternoon with plenty of room for children and dogs to run around.
Entry to the abbey is free for Leeds residents—just bring proof of address like a driving license or a utility bill. There’s also a large free car park at Abbey House Museum across the road. Open Tuesday to Sunday from 10 am to 4:30 pm (April to September), it’s a fantastic way to combine history with the great outdoors
3. Temple Newsam
Temple Newsam is a magnificent Tudor-Jacobean estate spread across nearly 1,000 acres of parkland. This historic site features a stately Mansion House, a working farm, a golf course, and beautiful gardens.
