Horsforth Hall Park

Horsforth Hall Park is one of the premier picnic spots in Horsforth, with vast open spaces, beautifully maintained and home to a well-equipped playground, scenic walks, skate park, cricket pitch and bowling green. There's enough here for all the family to enjoy, whether you're looking for an active picnic or a more relaxed kick-back in the sun. Soak up the sport on offer courtesy of the Horsforth Harriers Running Club and the Horsforth Hall Park Cricket Club, or opt for a quiet corner alongside the bandstand. Whatever your preference, Horsforth Hall Park is the go-to picnic spot in Horsforth.

King George's Field

This expansive field offers plenty of room for games, relaxation, and family gatherings. Surrounded by greenery and mature trees, it provides a peaceful setting for a leisurely picnic - when there's no sport on, that is.

Home to Horsforth Sports Club, King Geoge's field is a local hub of grassroots sports and hosts Horsforth St Margaret's FC, Horsforth Cricket Club, Horsforth Harriers and the Horsforth Hawks. Showcasing local football, cricket, running, and rounders clubs respectively, King George's Field is the perfect place to soak up the sporting action and enjoy a picnic in Horsforth.

The Leeds and Liverpool Canal

The Leeds and Liverpool Canal, known throughout the UK for its scenic qualities, and the stretch between Horsforth and Rodley is no different. The canal's towpath is perfect for a stroll, offering lovely views of the water and surrounding wildlife. Picnic areas and benches along the canal provide a serene setting to enjoy your meal while watching boats gently pass by. A hotbed for picnickers, outdoor enthusiasts and dogwalkers alike, the Rodley Horsforth Canal offers a charming escape from the hustle and bustle.

Hall Park Japanese Gardens

Hall Park has already made our list, but we've bent the rules a little, because we think Hall Park's Japanese Gardens are deserving of their own place, and here's why. For one, credit to the foliage and unique flowers and shrubbery on display, the gardens make you feel like you're somewhere other than the North of England. The beautifully designed garden features traditional Japanese landscaping, including serene ponds, intricate rock formations, and a variety of carefully curated plants.

Secondly, the gardens will appeal to a different type of picnic goer. Those looking to see some sport or to engage in some activities are best served to look elsewhere, Hall Park for example, but for those seeking a secluded picnic spot surrounded by nature, look no further than Hall Park's Japanese Gardens.

Newlaithes Playground

Familiar to anyone whose children attend Newlaithes Primary School in Horsforth, Newlaithes Playground sits opposite the school and is the perfect place for a picnic with younger kids. It's hyper-convenient, so close to the school and a favourite of parents and kids thanks to the spacious greenery and accompanying play park, complete with a multifunctional climbing base, slide and various other child-friendly equipment. As a safe space great for kids and easy to access, Newlaithes Playground is a great option for picnic in Horsforth.
