Wortley is situated just one mile outside of Leeds City Centre and is fast becoming a prime location for families, commuters and first time buyers. Wortley is divided into 3 areas; New Wortley, Upper Wortley and Lower Wortley all with differences and variations making it a unique place to live.

Things To Do

Due to its close proximity to Leeds City Centre, there is plenty to do in and around Wortley. If you’re an adrenaline junkie, Leeds Depot Climbing is less than a mile away on Gelderd Road, whether you’re a climbing novice and an experienced boulder-er there is something for you. Explore the outdoors and take a stroll along Wortley Beck or head to Western Flatts Park for some impressive scenery. Keeping on the active theme, just a couple of miles down the round is Armley Leisure Centre, giving you access to the gym, swimming, sports hall and fitness facilities.

Location is key when it comes to Wortley; just 1 mile west of Leeds City Centre, the initial attraction to the area is obvious. Whilst the commute to the city centre is almost non-existent, Wortley also benefits from close connections to motorways networks, appealing to those who work a little further afield. Whilst New Wortley is the closest to the Leeds City Centre, there are bus links from all 3 areas of Wortley connecting to Leeds as far as Huddersfield.

Wortley grew during the industrial revolution. Previously Wortley was home to smaller industrial works, however the proximity to industrial centres such as Armley and Holbeck encouraged gradual growth in the area. Wortley was recognised for its array of railway junctions and multiple gasworks across Lower and New Wortley. Wortley changed drastically after the Second World War, when Leeds Corporation and private developers, redeveloped the Victoria slums and created a range of social housing.
