Things To Do

Whether you choose to take a walk down by the river or take a short trip out to Stockeld Park there is plenty of open space in and around Wetherby. Catch one of the many seasonal events in the grounds of Stockeld Park, including their famous Christmas Adventures. If you fancy something a bit different there’s the option to attend Wetherby races at Wetherby’s own racecourse, they host several race weekends across the year as well as variety of other events. If you’re a music lover, Bramham Park is a short drive away and is home to the annual Leeds Festival. For the adrenaline junkies; Tockwith’s very own Motor Sports Centre is just 15 minutes away from the town centre, offering training and driving facilities alongside Go-Karting, making for a great day out. Or if you fancy something a bit more relaxed why not checkout the independently run Wetherby Cinema with reasonable ticket prices and unique, comfy seats. There are a range of luxury hotels with Spas nearby including Wood Hall in Linton and The Bridge Hotel in Walshford.

Transport

Wetherby is 20 miles away from Leeds city centre and only 10 miles away from the popular town of Harrogate. Although there is no longer a train station within Wetherby, there are a number of bus routes departing from Wetherby Bus Station and around the town. The buses offer regular links to Tadcaster, Harrogate, Leeds and neighbouring suburbs. Situated on the Great North Road Wetherby is a popular spot for those who make regular journeys to either London or Edinburgh with Wetherby Services being a popular choice with commuters.

History

Wetherby's history stretches back to the 12th and 13th centuries when the Knights Templar, followed by the Knights Hospitaller, were granted land and properties in Yorkshire. In 1240, King Henry VIII issued a Royal Charter granting the Knights Templar the right to hold a market in Wetherby every Thursday—a tradition that continues today.

Eating & Drinking

From cafés to takeaways, to restaurants and bars, Wetherby has it all. Starting with a firm favourite, you can’t pass the area without visiting the original Wetherby Whaler. Their famous fish and chips are the perfect accompaniment to an evening down by the river. For a lighter snack head to Pomfrets of Wetherby and enjoy one of their freshly baked cakes and scones in their cosy café. If you’re looking for something unique whether it be day or night, head down to Bar Three in the centre, for a range of innovative dishes and opulent cocktails. Or alternatively why not pop to Snug & Chatter, a modern gastro pub serving the best possible locally sourced food alongside an extensive drinks menu including local beers and lagers.

Shopping

There are a plethora of shops and amenities within Wetherby Town Centre. Wetherby has a whole host of independent shops including women’s clothing, children’s toys and clothing, hand-made chocolate and a bike shop. Read our blog to find out more. There is also the Horsefair Centre which is home to some large high street names such as Boots and Superdrug. For all your groceries the Morrison’s and Marks and Spencer in the town should cover it, or stock up on locally sourced product at the local farmers market that still takes place every Thursday.
