Stanley has a good selection of activities on offer nearby. If you love walking and being outdoors, Stanley Nature Reserve is a great place explore. Whether it be an adventure into the woodland area, a dog walk on a Sunday afternoon or a look at the wildlife, the reserve provides it all. If you fancy a round of golf, Hatfield Golf Course is just a five-minute drive from Stanley and provides the perfect back drop to putt a few holes and take in the scenery. Just a little further afield you’ll find some of Wakefield’s top attractions including: The Yorkshire Sculpture Park, Sandal Castle and Wakefield Cathedral, which are all popular amongst the locals. The community feel shines through with many of its successful sporting teams. The Stanley Falcons and Stanley Rangers are both great teams that create a fantastic buzz amongst the locals when they play. Florence Margaret Beaumont, who fought for Women’s voting rights, was born in Stanley. Despite not actively seeking power for herself, she founded and helped run several women’s rights and suffrage organisations, which later lead to her representing in the Women’s voice of league nations.

Stanley has good transport links. Whether it be by car, taxi or bus, Stanley provides an easy access to Wakefield and the surrounding areas. Being located next to the M61 and M1, it’s no surprise that it’s an excellent choice for a commuter. The best mode of public transport into the nearby towns and cities is by bus. With regular timetables and multiple services running to and from Stanley, it’s a convenient middle location for a city life away from the bustle.

As well as amenities, the town also offers a wide range of takeaways and local pubs, which serve great ales and classic pub scrub.
