Transport
Roundhay is less than 4 miles from Leeds City Centre and can be reached in 10 minutes by car. Although there is no train station in Roundhay you are still connected to most of Leeds with the array of buses on offer. Buses to the city centre are very regular and can get you there in just 30 minutes. The number 12 can take you to Chapel Allerton Hospital or to the White Rose Shopping Centre. Some routes can also take you to Bramley or Horsforth and even out to Wetherby. If you’re looking to go further afield then don’t worry, Roundhay has quick and easy access to the ring road making it easy to get further afield and to the motorway network.
History
Back in the 12th Century, Roundhay was a private hunting ground for the De Lacy family of Pontefract Castle, it was gifted to them by William the Conqueror. Deer hunting was a very popular activity with the Kings until the early 16th century when King John, in a 3-day hunt, over hunted which resulted in the end of the deer population in Roundhay. Eventually in 1872, due to a family dispute, Roundhay was sold to the Leeds Corporation and was opened by Prince Arthur as a public park.
