There are a number of things to do in and around the New Farnley area. Farnley Hall Park is a peaceful spot just 0.4 miles from New Farnley centre. Whether you explore the gardens, admire the stately home or have a climber on the climbing frames, it’s a great day out for all the family. Another outdoor space to make the most of is the local park, which has tennis courts to play a friendly game, grass pitches to score some goals or just relax and enjoy a picnic on a sunny day. For all the cricket fans, New Farnley has its own cricket club, which is a perfect place to watch a game – or even better get involved with the local team. Transport

Situated just 13 minutes from Leeds city centre, New Farnley is an ideal spot for a commuter. With easy access to motorway links and regular bus routes connecting New Farnley to the nearby towns, including Wortley, Kirkstall, Pudsey and Leeds City centre, New Farnley is an ideal location. Although there is no train station in New Farnley, it’s just a 7-minute drive to Bramley train station, which has direct access to the city and connecting areas.


History

The area named ‘New Farnley’ wasn’t devised until the 19th Century. Before, the area comprised of Upper Moor Side and Low Moor Side, which were mainly farmland and woodland that belonged to Farnley Hall. Upper Moorside was a weaving community and the cottages which remain today are all listed buildings. Also, within the community stands the Lancastrian School Room, which was built by Joseph Lancaster and still remains today.

Eating & Drinking

If you are looking for something to eat or drink, then there are some great places in New Farnley. Popular amongst the locals for its great atmosphere and lovely food is the local cricket club, where you can enjoy a bite to eat and a cold pint. Alternatively, just up the road in Farnley, you can relax with a glass of wine, whilst delving into the bistro experience at The Beulah Bistro. After a long walk in the park, why not treat yourself to some fish and chips from Craven’s; you won’t be disappointed. A village wouldn’t be the same without the local pub. The Woodcock is a great place to watch the football, have a few pints with your friends and feast on traditional pub scrub.


Shopping

Despite being in close proximity to Farnley, New Farnley still has a host of amenities. The village has a barber, beauty salon, corner shops, restaurants and pretty much everything you need on your doorstep. Although there is not a major supermarket in the village, just a 5-minute drive to Tong Road, you will find a large ALDI, which is ideal for your weekly shop. If you are looking for a spot of retail therapy, then just a 5-minute drive into Farnley centre, are independent retailers. Alternatively, at Kirkstall Bridge Shopping Park there are a number of large stores, perfect for high street shopping, without heading into the city centre.
