History

Calverley is an Ancient Parish in the West Riding of the county of Yorkshire. Historically, Calverley was a parish in the district of Bradford and the Morley Wapentake, but was incorporated into the municipal borough of Pudsey in 1937. There were plans to build ‘Calverley Cutting’, a straight road intended to replace the old winding packhorse way. This was part of a plan to develop luxurious residential properties in 1856, but was disputed by local residents and the plans failed.

Eating & Drinking

A quaint village like Calverley would not be complete without a traditional pub or two. The Calverley Arms is a hugely popular venue for food, or a relaxing drink outside in the beer garden. Just down the road you’ll find The Thornhill, The New Inn and The Railway Inn, all popular spots with the locals of Calverley. If you prefer more of a café feel, head to ‘The Little Coffee House’ on Victoria Street, which serves tasty homemade treats and barista style coffee, morning through to late lunch.
