With the villages rural yet central location you will never be short of something to do and really can enjoy the best of both worlds whether you enjoy a countryside walk or a thrilling activity! Take a stroll up the village high street to one of the many village coffee shops or take a trip to the local park where there is plenty of green space for picnics and kicking a football around.
Venturing a short drive out of the village to family favourite Lotherton Hall, you can enjoy a great day out with it’s beautiful grounds and gardens as well as a wildlife and adventure playground. 
If you are looking for more of a thrill, Xscape is only a 20 minute drive, with a variety of fun activities including a climbing wall and indoor skiing! 
Going a little further afield, hop on the train which is approximately 20 minutes to the historic city of York, which runs directly from Sherburn-In-Elmet, where you will be thrust back in time with a stunning Cathedral, shop lined cobbled streets and plenty to see and do!

Sherburn-in-Elmet Airfield is currently the base for the Sherburn Aero Club, Sherburn's links with the air industry dating back to the Second World War when the Blackburn Aircraft Company built the Fairey Swordfish in the village. The Aero club is also a great afternoon out with a café and children’s playground!

Transport

Adding to Sherburn-In-Elmet’s long list of plus points are the transport links with bus services running to and from Leeds, Tadcaster, Selby, Pontefract, Wakefield, Wetherby and Castleford as well  as a train station with trains regularly running to York and Leeds.  

    History

    Sherburn-In-Elmet is home to all Saints Church The Church itself is unusually large for a village parish Church and dates from around 1120, with Norman pillars and a later-built large tower housing a ring of eight bells. It was built on the site of an earlier Anglo-Saxon church. The church is now a Grade I listed building.

    The village is host to plenty of local eateries and pubs, where traditional pub food is served and a great atmosphere can be found. Some popular choices amongst the locals include the recently renovated Red Bear public house, which has a fantastic outdoor courtyard and would be the perfect setting to enjoy a Gin & Tonic in the sun, as well as their delicious food menu! 
    The Swan pub also found in the village centre is a great spot to enjoy a glass of wine or traditional Ale. 
    There are also many takeout options to include the famous Dominos pizza, Saffron curry house and fish and chip shops!

    Sherburn-In-Elmet although a village could be mistaken for a small town with it’s unusually wide variety of amenities, including four supermarkets, as well as a number of high street Hair & Beauty salons and boutique shops meaning most necessities are on your doorstep. If you fancy a trip out, Junction 32 shopping complex can be found only 20 minute drive away which is home to many well known shops and restaurants.
